Dr. Ajit K. Deka is a highly distinguished senior consultant in Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, currently serving as the In-charge and Chief Consultant of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Nemcare Hospital. With a career spanning several decades, he is widely regarded as an exceptional clinician and a mentor of the highest order—often described as a “teacher of teachers” within the medical community.

He completed his MBBS from Gauhati Medical College, followed by an MD and DA in Anaesthesiology from Assam Medical College. His strong academic foundation has been complemented by extensive clinical experience and leadership in critical care medicine.

Before joining Nemcare Hospital in 2008, Dr. Deka had a long and impactful tenure at Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, where he served as Professor and Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology & Critical Care from 1995 to 2007. During this period, he played a pivotal role in shaping medical education and training generations of doctors in Assam.

At Nemcare, he has been instrumental in developing and leading the ICU into a center of excellence, combining clinical expertise with a strong emphasis on teaching and mentorship. His contributions to patient care, academic leadership, and capacity-building in critical care continue to have a lasting impact on healthcare delivery in the region.
