Dr. Bhupendra Prasad Sarma is a highly experienced Senior Consultant Surgeon and a leading specialist in burn care, trauma management, and general surgery, with a distinguished career spanning over 43 years. He completed his MBBS from Guwahati University in 1972 and went on to obtain an MS in General Surgery from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) Chandigarh in 1977 .

Dr Sarma currently serves as the Head of the Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery at NEMCARE Hospital , Guwahati . He is a pioneer in development of Burn Care in the entire North Eastern region of India. Under his leadership , the burn care unit of NEMCARE Hospital has treated more than 6000 patients in last 15 years and has brought down the mortality of burn patients . A large number of burn injured patients have also been successfully saved and rehabilitated in the society .

He is widely recognized for his expertise in burn injuries  and his work is frequently cited in academic and clinical literature. A pioneer in burn management, Dr. Sarma has led the Burn Care Unit at NEMCARE Hospital, which was named the Best in Northeast India in 2025. His decades-long contribution to surgery, education, and research have established him as one of the foremost authorities in burn and general surgery in Northeast India.
